Hits from the Zeroes
The Zeroes are known for the introduction of the Euro allowing payment with the same unit in many countries within Europe. NASA’s Rover landing on Mars. Cell phones displace landlines and people increasingly communicate via SMS. September 9, 2001 the world is shocked when two planes crash into the Twin Towers in the United States.
The controversy within Formula One
In Formula 1, some controversy arose over team orders after Barrichello led his teammate Schumacher in the Austria GP in 2002. Consequently, after the 2002 season, FIA announced that team orders that could influence the outcome of the race were banned. Furthermore, there was a tire war between Bridgestone and Michelin, which resulted in faster lap times but also dangerous situations.
De Heroes of the Zeroes
Newcomers and future world champions Kimi Raikkonen, Sebastian Vettel, Hamilton and Alonso had to deal with Michael Schumacher, who after his title in 1994 and 1995 managed to win 5 more world titles this decades with Ferrari.
In 2008 there was something to celebrate at the Circuit, namely the 60th anniversary! For the anniversary a race was organized in which historic racing classes and Dutch Power Pack cars were on display, in addition there was a parade through the center of Zandvoort. Photo ©Chris Schotanus
Cars from the Zeroes
In addition to the Fiat 500, the Peugeot 307, Citroën C4, and the Ford S-max entered the market. The navigation system was built into cars for the first time, and several unmanned gas stations appeared along secondary roads.
The Zeroes both at home and abroad
Pop, hip-hop & House music was super popular in the Zeros. Lady gaga, Robie Williams and Eminem dominated the charts. The Dutch HipHop Hits were made by de Jeugd van Tegenwoordig, Ali B and Lange Frans & Baas B.
